Welcome to Lily in WonderLab. I created this website to share my love of natural cosmetic formulation, creative DIY cosmetics, ingredients and sensory skincare, together with the knowledge I have gathered through study, formulation and practical experience.

I take great care to research the information I publish and to formulate according to sound cosmetic formulation and safety principles. However, cosmetic ingredients, regulations, supplier specifications and scientific knowledge can change over time, and individual skin responses can vary. Please use the information on this website thoughtfully and responsibly.

Educational and Personal DIY Use

The information, formulas, tutorials, articles, videos, downloads and other resources available on Lily in WonderLab are provided for educational and personal DIY use only.

They are intended to help you understand cosmetic ingredients and formulation and to create products for your own personal use. They are not intended as professional manufacturing instructions or as formulas validated for commercial production.

If you intend to sell or commercially manufacture cosmetic products, you are responsible for ensuring that your products comply with all applicable cosmetic regulations, safety assessment requirements, manufacturing standards, testing, labeling and other legal requirements in your country.

DIY Cosmetic Safety

Cosmetic formulation involves working with ingredients that must be used at appropriate concentrations and under suitable conditions.

Whenever you make a formula from Lily in WonderLab, please:

  • Check the documentation supplied with your ingredients. Follow the manufacturer's recommended usage rates, restrictions, storage conditions and technical specifications.

  • Respect applicable safety limits. This is particularly important for essential oils, fragrances, active ingredients, preservatives, acids and other ingredients with specific maximum concentrations or conditions of use.

  • Measure accurately. Cosmetic formulas are expressed in percentages and/or grams for a reason. Small measuring errors can sometimes significantly change a product.

  • Work hygienically. Clean and disinfect your workspace, equipment and appropriate containers before preparing cosmetics.

  • Pay attention to preservation and pH. Water-containing cosmetics can support microbial growth if they are not appropriately formulated and preserved. Changes to ingredients, pH or percentages may also affect the effectiveness of a preservative system.

  • Be careful with substitutions. Replacing, omitting or changing an ingredient may alter the texture, pH, stability, preservation, performance or safety of a formula. A substitution should never automatically be assumed to be equivalent.

  • Check for personal sensitivities and allergies. Natural ingredients can also cause irritation, sensitization or allergic reactions.

  • Test skin compatibility before regular use where appropriate, particularly when using a new ingredient or product. A home patch or small-area test cannot guarantee that a reaction will never occur.

  • Stop using a product if irritation or an unexpected reaction develops.

  • Discard products showing signs of contamination or deterioration, including unexpected changes in smell, appearance, texture or microbial growth.

Extra care should be taken when formulating for children, pregnancy or breastfeeding, very sensitive or compromised skin, known allergies, or particular health conditions. When there is any doubt about whether an ingredient or product is appropriate for you, seek advice from a suitably qualified healthcare professional.

Avoid contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas unless a formula has specifically been designed for that application.

Formula Testing and Stability

I carefully develop and evaluate the formulas I publish, but DIY formulas should not automatically be considered equivalent to products that have undergone professional laboratory stability, compatibility, microbiological or preservative efficacy testing.

A formula published on Lily in WonderLab should not be interpreted as having undergone formal laboratory stability testing or a preservative challenge test.

Raw materials can also differ between suppliers and batches. The same ingredient name does not always mean identical composition, concentration or specifications. Always check the technical information provided by the supplier of the ingredient you are actually using.

I cannot be responsible for ingredient substitutions, incorrect measurements, unsuitable or deteriorated raw materials, poor hygiene, inappropriate packaging, improper preparation or storage, contamination, individual reactions, or uses outside the guidance provided.

Medical and Skincare Information

The content on Lily in WonderLab is intended for educational purposes and general cosmetic and skincare information.

It is not medical advice and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, medical condition or skin disorder, nor should it replace advice from a doctor, dermatologist, pharmacist or other qualified healthcare professional.

References to the cosmetic properties or functions of ingredients describe their use or potential role within cosmetic products and should not be interpreted as medical claims.

If you have a diagnosed skin condition, persistent irritation, allergies, are taking medication that may affect your skin, or have any health-related concern, seek professional medical advice before introducing new products or ingredients.

Accuracy of Information

I make every reasonable effort to research my articles and resources carefully and to use reliable technical and scientific information.

However, cosmetic science continues to evolve, regulations can change, suppliers may reformulate ingredients or update specifications, and errors or outdated information may occasionally occur.

For this reason, you should always consult the current technical data, safety documentation and recommendations supplied by the manufacturer or supplier of the ingredient you are using.

Where current regulatory limits or supplier specifications differ from older information published on this website, the most recent applicable documentation should be followed.
