Sleeping pillow spray recipe

This sleeping pillow spray recipe contains relaxing essential oils that will help you to relax and fall asleep.

Sometimes, stress and season change cause insomnia and sleep issues. Aromatherapy is very useful in these cases. This sleeping pillow spray contains relaxing, anti-depressant and anti-insomnia essential oils: lavender, sweet orange, bergamot, geranium and benzoin.
A sprinkle on the pillowcase will help you to fall asleep, wrapping your senses with its delicate scent. You can mist it over your pajama and sheets as well.

If you like lavender scent, but you are a bit tired of it, this mix of essential oils is perfect for you as it’s a more elaborate scent. I don’t have anything against lavender, but I find it a bit too boring sometimes. With this blend I have been able to make it a bit more interesting and appealing without losing its wonderful properties.
To fully appreciate it, let it sit for a week. At first the citrus and geranium notes will be predominant, but after the maturing period you will get a calibrated and heavenly scent sweetened by benzoin. Be patient and you’ll get amazing results!

I love benzoin oleoresin and I must admit I’m quite obsessed with it. It has an amazing sweet and vanilla like scent that is so pleasant and relaxing. It’s commonly used for meditation as well. The fact that is an oleoresin makes it a little bit complicated to use sometimes, but it’s worth it. Peru balm is very similar and could be a good substitute.

If you like this scent, you can prepare the practical Sweet Dreams fragrance oil to have it ready for any handmade cosmetic you make. It contains the same essential oils blend.

How to make a sleeping pillow spray

  • Mix all ingredients and pour them into a small 10 ml bottle.
  • Let sit for at least 1 week to allow the scent to mature.
  • Spray on the pillowcase just before bedtime. One sprinkle is sufficient.

Notes

  • The base of this pillow spray contains food grade alcohol. Some people use vodka instead, but please note that vodka contains the 60% of water and could prevent your essential oils to solubilize properly, obtaining a bi-phasic product that you’ll have to shake before use and that will deteriorate more quickly. You can use vodka if you don’t have any other option, but alcohol would be the best choice in this case.
  • Pillow spray products are absorbed immediately and do not cause damage to the fabric. However, we recommend that you first test the relaxing pillow spray on a hidden edge of the pillowcase and avoid using it on fine fabrics.
